Better Business Act Parliamentary Reception

Yesterday we joined over 400 leading British businesses at the Better Business Act (BBA) Parliamentary Reception to call on the government to strengthen the Companies Act to help ensure every business in the UK aligns the interests of their stakeholders with those of wider society and the environment.

The BBA Parliamentary Reception was a key moment in the campaign’s evolution and provided an opportunity to understand the cross-party interest in the BBA and demonstrate to Westminster the breadth of business support behind the coalition.

There was a lot of collaborative discussion on the real need for this change and how it can be implemented with co-chair of the BBA and CEO of Innocent Drinks Douglas Lamont saying “The Better Business Act campaign is an important movement for change, where leaders of businesses of all types and sizes are coming together united by a clear purpose – to set a higher standard for ourselves and create a clear and consistent regulatory framework that puts aligning the needs of all stakeholders: our shareholders, our people and our planet as its central principle. With this in place we are confident we can accelerate the much-needed journey towards a fairer and more sustainable future for all.”

Jon Geldart, director general of the Institute of Directors, highlighted that “directors have a crucial part to play in creating and running better and more sustainable businesses”.

At Marvel FMCG we have found that adopting a holistic business model that doesn’t champion profit above wider society and the environment has actually given us a point of difference that businesses appreciate. In fact over 50% of the companies we are currently engaging with are B-Corp Businesses themselves. We truly believe that it is important for a business to be a force for good, and this was the main driver behind us founding Marvel FMCG.
